Nothing wrong with a big fandom. Yes, it will bring in the people who capslock and such but at least there isn't fodder for any serious shipping wars so we can avoid that. I'd love good omens to have a massive, sprawling fanbase if only because it deserves it and a large fanbase is normally a creative fanbase.
In reality, I hope they cast people I've never heard of.
If I'm picking from actors I have heard of, a friend suggested Alan Davies as Aziraphale once as joke but I kind of like the idea. He's adorable, I'm sure it could work.

So far my favorite fan cast for Crowley has been Danny Pudi, that's basically my headcanon appearance for Crowley. Well, a few differences, but the closest actor that I know of for his appearance (granted I don't know a lot of actors....) I'd also, like many of you said, be most happy with a pleasant surprise of actors I haven't seen much of before! Let some talented new person get some action!
Also my least favorite thing in fan casting besides the Hiddles/Cumberbatch thing is the Mark Sheppard thing. Because even though they have the same name, Supernatural Crowley is a WAY different character than GO Crowley! It bugs me when people try and make them the same :U

I hate when people compare the two Crowley. It really IS NOT the same character at all. I would scream in anger if they even consider the option...
And OMG DANNY PUDY IS MY NEW HEADCANON. Thank you so much I never considered it but WOHA!

Yeah Mark is a great SPN!Crowley but SPN!Crowley is a worlds of difference from our GO!Crowley. I love him, but I don't think Mark would be able to pull off the kind of personality GO!Crowley calls for. SPN!Crowley is a loaded gun and self-centered to the point of maliciousness. I'm happy as a clam keeping them separate as possible.

Best headcanon (This is Whims from earlier btw i just now bothered to make an account) And YES I love Mark Sheppard, in fact i was just watching an X Files episode with him in it ("Fire", he was the guy that could cause spontaneous combustion and burned people up. real malicious fellow), and I love SPN Crowley but... we can just keep the two very separate :)

Though if they did cast him as that I would still be highly amused because that would definitley tie the entire good omens mythology in to the supernatural mythology and that would be awesome.

I saw some one say they'd like to see Sheppard as Ligur. I would totally go for that.
There's so much conspiracy flying around. Something about Pratchett or Gaiman saying something like they would want to see Cumberbatch in it. But I don't know if they said that just to shut up people bothering them about it or what. And then there's the rumor that Sheppard said that Gaiman would want him to play Crowley in it. I think that is complete BS I have never seen any real information on it except for one post on tumblr that says this is true because he said it at a con.
Honestly, I just want them to announce the actors so this whole fancasting nonsense will cease :I I'm the Switzerland on the whole matter really but I'm just getting tired of people beating a dead horse and that alone is what is starting to annoy me.
I will be happy with who ever the people producing choose to cast, be it Cumberbutt and Shep or the dread Hiddlebatch pairing. I'm just happy we're getting a mini series at all.

I can actually provide information about this because I was at Asylum 8 a few months ago and Mark was there bitching about this. Basically he said something like he's spoken to Neil Gaiman about the book (note, not about casting, just about the book) and he mentione this at a con and twitter exploded. He said he'd love a role in Good Omens but nobody has oficially said anytihng to him about it, it's just people getting ahead of themselves on twitter. There are probably vids of the panels on youtube. He then made fun of twitter uses in general and said we'd probably be claiming he had sex with Neil Gaiman next which I made a valiant effort to get trending by tweeting it like once then ignored.

I have a fancast of the Horsepersons that I made last night here, featuring Robert Downey, Jr., Paul Boche, Kate Mara, and Peter Murphy as Famine, Pollution, War, and Death respectively. I realize that Death is, you know, a skeleton, but Murph is just too freaking perfect for the role (especially if you look at 80's!Murph) to not be thrown in there. Haven't tried to cast any of the mains, only because I know there's so much disagreement on who they want to see as Aziraphale and Crowley in particular. My personal two cents would be Martin Freeman (who could basically play anyone and I'd be fine with it) and François Arnaud.

Oh Kate Mara YES! She is AMAZING in American Horror Story! She scares the hell out of me!
mmmmmmmmm Not sure about Francois Arnaud but I would be absurdly proud if he got the role just because he is French Canadian like me.
