In this section, Aziraphale attempts to contact Crowley via telephone, but gets his answering machine instead. He's yelling at it thinking it's Crowley on the phone, so he continues to talk to it.
However, Aziraphale is the first angel to get a computer and from what we know, despite it being outdated, he's very good at using it, especially for his taxes.
I think this answering machine part is what confuses a lot of fans into believing that Aziraphale has absolutely NO concept about technology whatsoever. I don't think the angel is that technologically challenged. I believe he understands computers just fine, it's just a matter of how advanced something is or if he chooses to acknowledge it.
It sort of begs the question of how much about technology does the angel know?

First, random observation out of the way: The fact that Aziraphale mistook the ansaphone for Crowley's voice tells us a lot about his technological savvy, maybe, yeah, sure. But it might ALSO be telling us that it's apparently in-character for Crowley to make weird noises just to mess with people. Anyway, it is an interesting question. Apart from the computer, I don't think Aziraphale is ever mentioned to deal with any kind of modern technology. I think, while he doesn't seem to have that much of a grasp of it, it's probably more a thing of lacking motivation than ability. He's undoubtedly intelligent enough to grasp it if he really put his mind to it, but new and modern things don't really interest him the way they do Crowley, he's more content to leisurely pick his way through the things humanity comes up with that survive the test of time.

That's what I was thinking, he doesn't feel the need or motivation to pick up on the latest tech.
I bet he knows about the Nook or iPad later, but prefers to keep it old school and have physical books.
I just don't equate him to a caveman who has never seen electricity in his entire life.
If he really wanted to, he could probably excel at some modern devices like solving Professor Layton puzzles. XD

Aziraphale is like my dad, he wil update to new technologies only if he has to or if the object he's used to have is not available anymore. If that does happen, he calls me right away to ask for me to explain everything, and a week later I have to explain everything AGAIN because he forgot everything. Then, sometimes (rarely), he surprises me by showing ME things he learned about his new gadget...
